So, Solo and Ensemble was yesterday and I'm soooo glad it's finally over! When I got there, we had a lot of time to just stand around and twiddle our thumbs because I guess we got there really early. I happened to see Ross in the hallway with some of his friends from school which was nice because I haven't seen him in forever... Garland people.. grr. Anyways, we went out to the parking lot while Alex was playing his solo (which he got a 1 on) and unloaded all the stuff out of the truck so we could warm up. Actually, the "Fanfare Bravo" ensemble got to warm up before us because they needed more time. Three of their people couldn't come so they had a couple guys from my ens. fill in. They sight read it during the performance and everything. But they still got a one, so that's cool. Their ensemble has a bunch of improv solos written into it. It's neat. It's also the easiest Class 1 solo I've ever seen. But anyways, then it was our turn to play and I didn't think I was nervous but my playing reflected it. I messed up a few things that I normally do just fine with in rehearsal. Also, Alex thought he screwed us over because he had strep throat and it was messing with his breathing while he was playing so he messed up alot too. But hey.. we got a one .. so we're going to state!! Like Patrick said, it's great when your judge is friends with your percussion instructor. :)
